Rabies research team of UP Mindanao receives an award for "Pasidungog 2023: Garbo sa Dabaw," one of the major events for Araw ng Dabaw held last March 8, 2023The rabies research team received an award for its excellent work and unwavering dedication to the continuous development of the City Government of Davao by supporting its programs and goals in the fields of animal health, welfare, and productivity. The award highlights the impact of rabies research in understanding the rabies situation in the city and determining and addressing the gaps in rabies control.
The team started studying rabies in 2018 under the STOP Rabies research program, funded by CHED DARE-TO, with Dr. Lyre Anni Murao as the program leader. In 2021, the research continued with the RabCast reseach project, funded by DOST-PCHRD, led by its project leader, Dr. May Anne Mata. Since 2022, the DOST-PCHRD continues to fund the rabies research under the RabDash DC research project, with Ms. Sherelyn A. Evangelio as the project leader. With research collaboration and expansion plans in the neighboring cities, the rabies research team is branded as Stop Rabies Mindanao, a group of researchers studying rabies from UP Mindanao and Davao CVO. With its rabies analytics dashboard, Stop Rabies Mindanao will continue to support the rabies control program in the city. We share this award to our collaborators, funding agencies, and those who continue to advocate a pet friendly and rabies free Davao City! |
RabDash DC team bagged awards during the 53rd Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health Conference
RabDash DC’s Science Research Specialists, Dejell Anne Satur, Feby Kirstine Evangelio, Jessel Babe Capin, and Angela Jahn Sanque presented research studies on rabies in Davao City under the RabCast Project. Ms. Satur presented the study "Optimal Control Theory Applied to a Rabies Epidemic Model with Time-Dependent Vaccination in Davao City, Philippines" which won 1st place for abstract presentation. Ms. Evangelio presented the study "Effect of COVID-19, Vaccination Ratio, and Human Population on the Reported Canine Rabies Cases in Davao City, Philippines: A Panel Regression Analysis" which won 2nd place for poster presentation. Ms. Capin participated in the podium presentation with the study "Whole Genome Sequencing of the Rabies Virus in Davao City Using Nanopore Technology Reveals New Information on the Genetic Diversity and Spatial Transmission of the Pathogen in the Region.” And Ms. Sanque participated in the poster presentation with the study "Integrative Meta-Analysis of Differentially Expressed Genes (DEGs) in Rabies Infection." |
Lachica Wins the Best Gong Show Presentation in the IWOMB 2019
Zython Paul Lachica, Gloria Marquez, Arlene Lagare, Janice Mendoza, Lyre Anni Murao, May Anne Mata, and Pedro Alviola, IV won the Best Poster Presentation during the 18th PNMCC General Assembly and Annual Symposium with the theme #TrendingViralDiseases on November 10, 2018 at Angeles University Foundation – Sports and Cultural Center, Angeles City. Their poster presentation entitled “The Impact of Government-Initiated Interventions, Dog Characteristics, and Climate on Rabies Cases in Davao City, Philippines” is part of the research objectives of the STOP Rabies program.
Lachica Wins the Best Gong Show Presentation in the IWOMB 2019
Zython Paul Lachica, Research Assistant at UP Mindanao, won the Best Gong Show Presentation for the poster entitled “Dog Population Control as Key Intervention Strategy for Eradicating Rabies in Davao City, Philippines: A Policy Implication via Mechanistic and Phenomenological Models” duing the 2019 International Workshop in Mathematical Biology (IWOMB) held on January 6-10, 2019 at Bohol Bee Farm, Bohol.
